The Priesthood of Believers

God’s purpose for the nation of Israel was that they be a “kingdom of priests and a holy nation” (Exod. 19:6), but they failed God and lost their spiritual privileges. Those privileges are now enjoyed by the church, for the New Testament says that we are “a holy priesthood… a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation… ” and “a kingdom of priests” (1 Pet. 2:5, 9; Rev. 1:6). Under the old covenant, God’s people had a priesthood; but under the new covenant, God’s people are a priesthood. “The priesthood of the believer” is a precious privilege of the Christian faith, the defense of which has cost many a life. It means that all believers have the same acceptance before God and enjoy equal access to God through Jesus Christ, the Great High Priest. It also means that every Christian has ministry, a role which, under the old covenant was reserved for particular people.

N First Serve

FIRST SERVE opportunities are those designed for people to try out a ministry before signing up for a longer commitment. Sometimes a FIRST SERVE is an opportunity to observe and talk with ministry leaders. Often however, it allows you to serve right along side others who are part of the ministry team, ask questions and get a feel for serving on a particular team. Make a phone call to a ministry leader and try a FIRST SERVE opportunity. You will be blessed and will be a blessing. And, as you pray for the Lord’s guidance, we know that you will discover your role as a CCC priest, making a kingdom difference.

SUNDAY MORNING and SPECIAL EVENTS – Great ministry

opportunities for helping CCC children grow in their young faith and develop their own gifts for service. Sunday serving roles include teachers, classroom and nursery helpers. You can also consider being one of our “silent servants,” who work behind the scenes organizing supplies and snacks. Very important!! During the year there are opportunities to serve with special events that engage CCC kids and those from our community. Examples are the Fall Carnival and Vacation Bible School.

AWANA – “Approved Workman Are Not Ashamed”

Awana helps churches and parents worldwide raise children and youth to know, love and serve Christ! This happens through training that builds an enduring biblical faith, healthy mentor and peer relationships, and tons of fun for children and adults alike! Serve as a leader/mentor, help with games or provide support and

administrative help.

Youth and College

JUNIOR HIGH – Our Junior High Ministry calls itself BANNER, and meets on Wednesday evenings. This is a difficult age and adult mentors are always needed and so very valuable. In addition there are opportunities to serve behind the scenes by providing snacks and as occasional

driving for activities.

HIGH SCHOOL – The CCC High School Ministry calls itself ANAKAINOSIS, which is a Greek word found in the New Testament and means “renewal,” is used to describe the Jesus’ work in the life of His followers. High School Students face many challenges, often without supportive and loving adults to help them with these challenges. Volunteers and mentors help us reach Central Unified students who have spiritual

questions and help our students grow in their faith and reach their friends.

YOUNG ADULTS – This group of college and post college aged young people calls themselves REALITY CHECK. They meet on Sundays at 6:30. Walking through life and career choices is much easier with someone who has traveled the road ahead of you. Consider mentoring these young people as they make the decisions that will shape their futures.

Worship

WORSHIP TEAM – Serving the Lord by leading the congregation into worship most Sunday mornings and on worship night (4^th Sunday), the CCC worship team is always in need of volunteer vocalists and musicians. If you love to sing or have an instrument collecting dust in your closet, contact Brian and come observe any practice, which is on Thursday at 7:00pm. A great first step is to join the

once-per-month choir (see below).

CHOIR – Providing the worship team with one Sunday off each month and our congregation with some different styles of worship music, the choir is a great place to share your musical gifting and make new friends. Choir practice is the 2^nd and 3^rd Thursday of every month at 6:30pm. Choir Sunday is the 4^th week of every month.

DRAMA – Several times each year our drama team comes together to prepare and present a special performance which helps to communicate key biblical truths. You don’t have to be a practiced thespian to be part of the Drama Team. Besides actors, there is need for volunteers to help with props and staging, costumes and make-up.

Administration

There are numerous ways to serve behind the scenes, some

regular and weekly, others occasional and related to special events and activities. Thursday mornings a team gets together to prepare the bulletin. Every week the chairs in the sanctuary need to be refreshed with pens, envelopes and bibles. Special events require all kinds of volunteers; from set-up and food prep to crowd control. Add your name to this team and we’ll call you as needed.

Connecting

This team wears radar for those who are new are not yet

connected to the CCC family. We have a group that rotates on the Sunday morning announcements and then greeting of

newcomers. Hospitality volunteers greet people as they come for morning services and offer them bulletins. On Easter and

Christmas Sunday this team provides a reception so that people can linger and visit after services. We also host several “Connecting Events” throughout the year and always need helping hands for these.

newcomer can never have enough handshakes and welcoming

conversations. You’ll be able to learn more about this team and

the different ways we try to help people engage with the CCC

family.

Drum Chums

This is a Saturday morning class for future drum artists who want to learn how to use their art to worship and serve the Lord. Come and learn how to read, write, and play rhudaments from a drum corps style. If you have some dusty drum sticks in your closet from your younger days as a drummer, contact Robby and talk about joining his team as another drum coach. You could also serve by working with Robby to find and arrange venues for the young students to show off their newfound skill.

Spiritual Warriors

SPIRITUAL WARRIORS uses the opportunity to train in martial arts to open doors for spiritual conversations with kids and adults from CCC and the community. New ministry leaders are grown from students, so if you have an interest in martial arts, join in as a student with the goal of serving young people through this ministry. Twice a year SPIRITUAL WARRIORS takes students to competitions and welcomes volunteers to help with registration, as score and time keepers, and to help with set-up and clean-up. The next competition is coming up on October.

Meals Ministry

When members of the church family have an illness or crisis, the members of the Meals Ministry spring into action, preparing and delivering food for the family. This team also prepares food funerals on occasion, along with special events at the church. Sermon Based Community Groups

At CCC the primary avenue for spiritual growth and relationship building is community groups, and we have designed ours around discussions of the weekly sermon. This enables people gain deeper understanding of the biblical text used in the

sermon in the context of relationships with other followers of Jesus. Each sermon based community group is hosted by an

individual or couple who will guide members through questions that have been prepared by the pastoral staff. If you have

ministry leadership experience and an interest in discipleship and spiritual formation, contact Shelley about hosting a

community group. New groups begin forming in September.

Men’s Ministry - IRONWORKS

The CCC men of IRONWORKS offer a number of ways to get involved as a volunteer. The “Pit Crew” that meets regularly to pray for/with our pastors. Men with a Mission (MWAM) is a group of guys who have made themselves available to assist the elderly, disabled, and single moms from our church and community and also help with various church projects. Timothy and BattleZONE are two discipleship programs offered by the men and always in need of additional leaders. Consider participating as a student with the goal of leading other men. Monday night our men meet for Bible study and table/discussion leaders help men dig deeper into each lesson. Occasional events built around particular interests (shooting, fishing, etc.) can always use extra planners and organizers. Plus, our men love to cook, clean and donate to various church-wide events.

The CCC Women’s Ministry serves our women by offering regular Bible study on Monday evening. Child care is provided. As with the men’s study, table/discussion leaders help women gain a better understanding of each lesson while building relationships with one another. The women too offer special events throughout the year that can always use extra planners and organizers. The November retreat is a special highlight for our women.

Prayer Ministry

Our prayer ministry is dedicated to covering the church and congregants with prayer. Members of the team pray during every Sunday service and make themselves available for any who desire prayer. They also coordinate distribution of prayer needs that are brought to our attention throughout the week. If you have gifts of intercession and consider yourself a prayer warrior, this team could be the perfect ministry for you.

TEAGUE KIDS –

In partnership with the after-school program at Teague Elementary School, our church provides volunteers to help kids who register for this program.  Volunteers assist paid staff in recreational activities and homework centers for kids who might have no adults in their lives to fill these roles.  Participation requires a fingerprint background clearance through Central Unified School District but is tremendously appreciated.  Contact Ed Winchester.

SIERRA MOBILE HOME and STONEPINE APARTMENTS – AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAMS

CCC has regular outreach to the Sierra Mobile Home Park and the Stonepine Apartments. Both sites involve afterschool homework help and recreational activities. The mobile home park site also includes a morning preschool. This is wonderful ministry that reaches both students and their family members. As with the Teague program, these sites often serve kids who often lack caring adults engaged in their lives. If you love kids and are available in the mornings (for preschool) or afternoons, contact Brian or Dion.

SIERRA MOBILE HOME PARK AND STONE PINE APARTMENTS -

SUMMER PROGRAMS

CCC operates a summer school program in the Sierra Mobile Home Park and a Summer Lunch Program in the Stonepine Apartments for eight weeks during June, July and August.  The Summer School program operates in the mornings Monday thru Friday.  Children from kindergarten thru 8th grade are exposed to academic, recreational and performing arts programs.  Volunteers work one on one or in small groups with children.  CCC also operates a Summer Lunch Program for eight weeks during the summer in the Stonepine Apartments in cooperation with the Fresno County Employment Opportunities Commission.  Volunteers help hand out lunches, clean up and engage the children while they eat.  Contact Ed Winchester .

MOVIE NIGHTS IN THE MOBILE HOME PARK

CCC sponsors a movie night for children in the Sierra Mobile Home Park.  Children are shown a movie on a big screen in a mobile home and also have the options to play computer games.  Volunteers

supervise the children during the movie and when playing games and help serve snacks.  Current movie nights are the second and fourth Thursday of each month from 6:15 to 8:00 pm.

HIGHWAY CITY THRIFT STORE -

Near Polk and Shaw, the HIGHWAY CITY THRIFT STORE is dedicated to providing quality merchandise which can be either purchased or earned through volunteer hours. The structure of the store offers individuals the opportunity to provide for their families (clothing, necessities such as beds, tables, dressers and food) through employment or work oriented programs.  Volunteer opportunities include helping the regular staffing, with stocking, laundry, cashiering, assisting on the the donation truck.  Working in the store provides ample opportunity to build relationships with families in the community, and open doors for sharing the love of Jesus.  In addition to volunteering, the store is always in need of used items and non-perishable food which can be dropped off anytime during business hours or picked up at your home, business or storage lockers.
